| Assistive
Technology
The Assistive Technology Center is located in Room 112 of the Roaden
University Center and has been established to promote independence
of university students with disabilities through the use of adaptive
computer equipment and devices. Assistive computer equipment and
other services have been made available to students registered with
the department. Many of these services are also available in the library and some academic labs.
Some of the assistive technology
services currently available include:
- Dragon Dictate Voice Recognition System
- Bookwise, Kurzweil 3000, and Kurzweil 1000-scans
and reads text in different paces and modes
- Zoom Text-enlarges and reads Windows screens
for ease of use
- Closed Circuit TeleViewer-enlarges written and
printed materials
- Handi Key Windows or
Joystick
- Braille Printer-prints in 8 Braille languages
- TDDs Telecommunication Devices for the Deaf
- Closed Captioned Television with VCR
- JAWS-a screen reading program
For students registered with the Office of Disability Services,
a computer lab is available for word processing, spreadsheet processing,
and e-mail/Internet access. Assistance for using the above technology
is available in the Office of Disability Services. For more information
