Clubs and Organizations
Twelve student clubs and organizations
are affiliated with the TTU School of Agriculture. Members develop
leadership and interpersonal skills, have opportunities for
social and service activities, and learn about career opportunities
with each other and with faculty advisors.
Agribusiness Economics Club
The Agribusiness Economics Club is open to all Agribusiness
and Business majors. Its purpose is to promote interest in the
field of agribusiness and to expose students to aspects of business
outside of the classroom. Activities include guest speakers,
field trips, competing in the A.A.E.A. College Bowl competition,
and cookouts. The club is a member of the Student Section of
the American Agricultural Economic Association.

Agricultural Council
The purpose of the Agricultural Council is to promote and advance
the academic programs within the School of Agriculture and to
work with all organizations within the School of Agriculture
to promote activities involving all majors. The two main activities
of the Ag. Council are to sponsor a School of Agriculture Fall
picnic and to host the Annual School of Agriculture awards banquet
each spring.
The membership of the Agricultural Council is
made up of an elected representative from each of the 12 School
of Agriculture clubs and organizations, the editor of the "Aggie
Contact," and the Student Government Association Agriculture
senator.

Agricultural Engineering
Technology Club
The objectives of the Agricultural Engineering Technology Club
are to acquaint students with the opportunities in AGET, to
acquaint industry and the general public with AGET, to develop
potential leadership, to create a spirit of fellowship among
members, and to foster the development of professional and intellectual
improvement. Membership is open to all students in the School
of Agriculture.

Alpha
Gamma Sigma
Alpha Gamma Sigma is an agriculture-based fraternity that promotes
fellowship and attempts to inspire the professionalism of all
agricultural students. The chapter was established at Tennessee
Technological University in May 1961 under the leadership of
Dr. E.B. Knight, Agricultural Economics professor. Alpha Gamma
Sigma promotes 13 character building principles that members
are expected to practice in order to achieve a satisfying academic
and social life during their stay at Tennessee Tech. These principles
prepare the brothers for a rewarding and productive future in
Agriculture.

Block
and Bridle Club
The TTU Chapter of the Block and Bridle Club was chartered in
1947 and is affiliated with the national Block and Bridle Club.
The club provides students opportunity to develop leadership
skills and supports service and educational activities related
to the livestock industry.
The Block represents the commercial aspects of
livestock production; whereas, the Bridle is the symbol for
self-control and responsibility. Students having interests in
livestock are eligible for membership. The club sponsors an
annual membership drive, steak dinner and auction, and participates
in regional and local livestock clinics, judging contests, sales
and other local events occurring at TTU facilities.

Collegiate
FFA Chapter
The Collegiate FFA is a nationally affiliated organization designed
to develop competent, aggressive agricultural leaders. Activities
familiarize club members and prospective teachers of agriculture
with the duties of an FFA chapter advisor by hosting many district,
regional and FFA Career Development Events; by attending the
State and National FFA Conventions; and by participating in
State Collegiate Contests.

Collegiate
4-H Club
The purpose of the Tennessee Tech Collegiate 4-H Club is to
promote, support and assist 4-H Club activities in Tennessee.
Members assist the District IV Tennessee Agricultural Extension
Service in conducting judging contests and leadership activities,
and assist with 4-H All Star Conferences. The membership of
the Tennessee Tech Collegiate 4-H consists of 4-H Alumni who
are enrolled in Tennessee Technological University.

Delta Tau Alpha
Delta Tau Alpha is a national honor society organized for
students and professionals in Agriculture. The purposes of
the society are to recognize high standards of scholarship,
to encourage and foster high ethical standards, and to promote
the profession of Agriculture. Members are chosen based upon
scholastic achievement, personal character and leadership
qualities.

Intercollegiate
Equestrian Team
The team is a group of college students who represent
TTU at competitions in equitation as part of the Intercollegiate
Horse Show Association (IHSA). Intercollegiate horse
shows have both Hunt seat and Stock seat classes as
well as jumping and reining for the upper divisions
in each discipline. There are opportunities for competition
at every level of riding experience from beginner
walk-trot up to advanced and open classes. This is
team as well as individual competition.

Lambda
Alpha Sigma Professional Agricultural Sorority
Responding to the need for an organization to
support women studying and working in the field
of agriculture, a professional sorority known
as Lambda Alpha Sigma was founded at Tennessee
Tech. The membership consists of students studying
in the School of Agriculture at TTU who are interested
in educating women concerning the opportunities
in agriculture. Career seminars are held each
spring to help members and interested high school
seniors learn about opportunities available to
them. Successful alumnae of the School of Agriculture
visit campus to share their experiences and give
advice on career placement. Community service
activities are scheduled each semester as are
joint activities with other School of Agriculture
clubs. The sorority supports the development of
Lambda Alpha Sigma chapters at other universities
and encourages those interested to contact TTU's
LAS President.

Landscape
Horticulture Society
The Landscape Horticulture Society welcomes students
in Horticulture and Nursery/Landscape Management
as well as any other interested students. Students
receive training to participate in regional and
national horticulture contests, as well as the
National Landscape contractor association student
competition. Field trips to local and regional
conservatories, botanical gardens and interior
plantscaping sites are included. Students assist
with various public functions and regional high
school student competitions hosted by the School
of Agriculture.

Soil
Judging Team
Tennessee Tech's Environmental Conservation Club,
a student chapter of the American Society, of
Agronomy and Soil and Water Conservation Society,
supports Tech's Soil Judging Teams participation
in ASA - and NACTA - sponsored soil judging contest.
Tennessee Tech was the host of the first National
Collegiate Soil Judging Contest and hosted the
ASA Southeast Regional Contest in Fall 2000.
