Frequently Asked Questions

Q - What is required to transfer to Tennessee Tech?

Transfer applicants (students who have completed at least 24 hours of degree credit or equivalent at another college) must have at least a 2.0 GPA in their last full-time semester (or last 12 hours for part-time students) and a cumulative average that meets the retention standard required at Tennessee Tech.

The Admissions office will need official copies of your college transcripts, your admissions application, and the $15 application fee.

Q - Do I need to send my official high school transcripts also?

All transfer students graduating from high school in 1989 and after should request to have their official high school transcript sent directly to the Admissions office.

If you graduated high school before 1989, or you have already earned a bachelor's degree, you are not required to submit high school transcripts.

Q - I don’t have the 14 academic high school units. What do I do?

Any high school unit deficiencies will need to be removed in the first 30 hours of enrollment at Tennessee Tech.

Q - How are my transfer credits evaluated from previous schools?
Where can I find out what credits transferred from my previous schools?

The Graduation Office staff reviews your transcripts after you have been admitted. They send documentation to the department of your major for review. After department approval, the Graduation office will post your transfer credit to your Eagle Online student account.

Transfer Equivalency Tables for the Tennessee Board of Regents’ community colleges and Hiwassee College are created each year after the catalogs become available. To see the online version of how these courses transfer to TTU, visit www.tntech.edu/transfer/. Printed copies are available in the TTU Admissions Office.

Q - Can I receive credit for AP, CLEP, or other tests I have taken?

If credit was awarded at the previous school and you completed the next course in the sequence with a grade of 'C' or better then we grant credit. If it is a non-sequence course, scores must be submitted to us before granting credit. If credit was received by a departmental exam, we need to know what type of test was administered, and our department will determine if credit may be awarded.
