The subject and message both are random clips of text from documents or emails, and attached will be an infected document.
The virus is the attachment which looks like a document from the sender. Please DO NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS TO EMAILS unless you are completely sure of what the attachment is, and it does not end with the extension EXE, BAT, PIF, MSI, etc.
Once infected, the virus sends emails under your name to anyone in your address book and various other email addresses. After some period of time, it will begin corrupting all your program files, and finally, it will start making your icons move around on the screen as you try to click on them.
If you reach the point where your icons are moving, PLEASE SHUT DOWN YOUR MACHINE, as all your programs will soon be destroyed.
Removal - We are trying to get to faculty and staff on-campus who call as soon as possible to clean the virus. Central Command, Inc. has released a free Magistr cleaning utility. Download AntiMagistrB here, and save it to your Windows Desktop. Double click on its icon to run it, then click on the button Select Target and Choose C:. Click OK and then click on the Scan button.
If you would like to check your machine for any virii, try the Norton AntiVirus Online Scanner It will prompt you a few times with a security warning about installing a little program from Symantec. Choose Yes each time to allow it to function. You will then see it scanning all your files. However, this will NOT clean your computer.
One strand, Magistr.B (aka Magistr.39921@MM) is currently not detected or cleaned by Command AntiVirus.
