New Student Usernames for Fall 2003

All students have received new usernames beginning August 11, 2003  to provide better security for student accounts.

This change applies to both usernames for email (Gemini account) and for the PCLab (including ResNet and online Library databases).  All old email and files have been moved to the new accounts.  Email sent to the old account name will be forwarded automatically to the new email account.

To find your new username:
Search for your name at: http://www.tntech.edu/phonedirectory/default.htm
The part of your email address before the @ is your new username.

You must change the password on both your new Email and PCLAB accounts using your social security number with no dashes as the old password.

If you are on campus, you may go to any PCLab and change your PCLab password as prompted.  Then go to  http://gemini.tntech.edu/password to change your Email (Gemini) password.

If you are having difficulties getting your Email password to change, you may also use this method on most Windows machines:

  • From the Start menu, select Run.

  • Type Command

  • In the Command window, type:  telnet gemini.tntech.edu

  • When prompted, type your new username

  • Type your social security number without dashes as the password

  • When prompted, type your new password

  • Type it again for verification

  • Type lo to logout

  • Type exit to exit the command window.

  • You may then use WebMail from any browser to access your email using your new username and password.

When setting your password consider these guidelines:

  • It is less confusing if you keep both your Gemini and PC Lab passwords the same.

  • Omit the dashes when entering your social security number as the old password.

  • Use both letters and numbers.

  • No spaces or special characters, such as #, $, or %, are allowed.

  • Make your password of 6 or more characters in length.

  • Do not use common words found in the system dictionary.

  • Add numbers, an additional word or misspell it to prevent your password from being found in the dictionary.

  • Use the first letters of a phrase with some numbers, such as "I am here to learn until 2007" which would make your password: iahtlu2007

  • Make sure the CAPS LOCK key is off because your PCLAB password is case sensitive.

For additional assistance contact:  Microsupport@tntech.edu and include your PHONE NUMBER.
